So you might have been wondering:
Who the hell owns this site?! and … and … Why is it up in the first place?! … plus … What in heaven’s sake is this site all about?!
Relax. I’ll answer your questions in a bit.
First question …
Why is the site up in the first place?
Well, this is technically the second question listed up there, but allow me to do justice to this one first … please?
Wanna know why this site is online today?
It’s simple, really.
A while back, I was a broke dude urgently in need of a PC but “proper” new laptops were all north of $500. Guess how much I had …
$250 at best.
A reasonable thing to do would have been to scour eBay and craigslist looking for refurbished (or used) laptops which fit my needs … and I did by the way … but the thing is, any refurb I saw always had a downside.
It was either the battery could not hold a charge or some keys on the keyboard were missing, or even more annoying, part of the laptop’s screen was bad.
Then, something profound happened while I was gallivanting aimlessly around the internet one night …
I came across a thing called “Chromebooks“.
“Dafuq?!” … I thought.
“The Chrome browser now has a book of its own?” … I wondered.
Since I had nothing doing that night, I popped the term into Google search and the first article I read about Chromebooks were that they were just glorified web browsers.
“Nah!!! Not for me” … I shook my head vigorously and mustered.
A few weeks went by, and I still did not have a PC. I was stuck on getting things done at a public cafe and my smartphone.
Then one day, I just came to the conclusion that I would just get the Chromebook anyways, work as a freelancer on upwork (or is it still Odesk?) on web-based tasks until I could gather enough funds to pick a proper laptop.
Then, I got this:
Guess how much I paid?
Fast forward 6 weeks with the Chromebook, I had made enough money to get me a Macbook Air, but I didn’t.
Because I did not want to.
Everything I needed in a PC was handled effortlessly by the sub-$200 machine I picked.
This month marks my fifth month with a Chromebook, and I am running Ubuntu on it without any lag or flaw what so ever. So, one morning sometime around last week I woke up and said to myself:
“Most folks do not actually know how good a PC a Chromebook is.”
That is why this site is online.
Next question …
What in heaven’s name is the site all about?
If you read all the chatter (rant, basically) I put up above, then you should be able to piece this together by yourself.
Don’t want to?
Well, here, let me help:
I started Pick A CB (short for Chromebook) with just one aim in mind …
To give you solid reasons to pick a Chromebook and (most importantly) show you the ones to pick.
Someone just asked …
“Is that your mission statement”?
What the hell is a mission statement?!
Now, the final question …
Who the hell owns this outfit?
A broke dude.
Let’s leave it a that.
Still need a name?
Well, call me Kay.
It’s my initial.
